Updated: Nov 19

Ever wondered what inspired The 2 AM Code? In this exclusive Q&A, we dive deep with the author to uncover the story behind the book, the wisdom it offers, and the journey that brought it to life. From late-night revelations to actionable strategies, these 25 questions provide an intimate look into the mind of the author and the empowering message behind The 2 AM Code. Let’s explore the insights that make this book a must-read for anyone seeking clarity, confidence, and success in their personal and professional life.

1. What inspired you to create The 2 AM Code? Is there a personal story behind the title?

The 2 AM Code was born from my own late-night reflections—the moments when I’d lie awake, dissecting challenges at work, my relationships, and life in general. At 2 AM, you’re often alone with your thoughts, your fears, and your truths. I wanted to create a guide that empowers people, especially women, to reclaim their agency during those vulnerable moments. It’s about turning uncertainty into clarity, and fear into action.

2. How did you decide on the themes of self-efficacy, assertiveness, and boundaries for the book?

These themes emerged from my own journey and the stories of so many women I’ve met along the way. Self-efficacy, assertiveness, and boundaries are the pillars of empowerment—they’re the tools that help us stand tall in a world that often demands we shrink ourselves. By mastering these, we can navigate challenges with dignity and confidence, and that’s what I wanted to share with my readers.

3. Why did you choose 2 AM as the pivotal moment for empowerment?

At 2 AM, everything feels raw and unfiltered. It’s the time when we confront our doubts, fears, and aspirations without distraction. It’s also a metaphor for those moments in life when we feel stuck or uncertain. The 2 AM Code represents the tools and mindset needed to rise above those moments and take control of our narrative.

4. What do you hope readers will feel after finishing The 2 AM Code?

I hope readers walk away feeling seen, empowered, and equipped. I want them to realize their worth, set boundaries unapologetically, and step into their power with confidence. Most of all, I hope they feel inspired to take action—whether it’s speaking up at work, redefining a toxic relationship, or pursuing their boldest dreams.

5. How is The 2 AM Code different from other books about personal growth and empowerment?

What makes The 2 AM Code unique is its blend of relatable storytelling, practical strategies, and unapologetic honesty. This isn’t a book that sugarcoats the challenges women face—it’s a guide to navigating them with strength and grace. It’s also deeply personal, rooted in my experiences and those of women who’ve dared to challenge the status quo.

6. Can the principles of The 2 AM Code be applied outside of the workplace, like in relationships or parenting?

Absolutely. While the book has a strong focus on professional growth, the principles of self-efficacy, assertiveness, and boundaries are universal. Whether it’s setting boundaries in a relationship, advocating for your needs as a parent, or simply reclaiming time for yourself, The 2 AM Code offers tools that transcend the workplace.

7. How can someone who struggles with self-doubt start to develop self-efficacy?

The first step is small wins. Identify areas where you feel capable, no matter how minor, and build on them. Celebrate your successes, track your progress, and remind yourself of your achievements. Self-efficacy isn’t about perfection—it’s about believing in your ability to figure things out and taking consistent action toward your goals.

8. What’s the first step in setting boundaries, especially in a toxic work environment?

The first step is clarity. Understand what’s causing you discomfort and what boundaries need to be set. Then, communicate assertively but respectfully. For example, if you’re constantly expected to stay late without notice, you might say, “I’d appreciate knowing about overtime in advance so I can plan accordingly.” It’s about being firm yet professional.

9. Are the strategies in the book tailored for women, or can men benefit from them too?

While The 2 AM Code is written with women in mind, its principles are universal. Men can absolutely benefit from the strategies, especially those related to self-awareness, boundary-setting, and reclaiming agency in their lives. Empowerment knows no gender—it’s about taking control of your story, whoever you are.

10. What was your “2 AM moment,” and how did it lead to the insights in this book?

My “2 AM moment” came during a particularly challenging time in my career. I was overwhelmed, undervalued, and questioning my purpose. I remember staring at the clock at 2 AM, thinking, “This has to change.” That moment pushed me to reevaluate my boundaries, assert myself, and redefine success on my terms. The lessons I learned became the foundation for this book.

11. Which chapter of the book was the hardest for you to write, and why?

The chapter on setting boundaries was the hardest to write because it’s such a deeply personal and nuanced topic. For so many of us, boundaries are tangled with guilt, fear, or the desire to please others. Writing about it required me to reflect on my own struggles, revisit tough moments, and find ways to articulate strategies that are both effective and compassionate.

12. Do you explore cultural differences in how assertiveness is perceived?

Yes, I touch on how culture can shape our understanding of assertiveness. In some cultures, being assertive may be seen as disrespectful or even selfish, while in others, it’s encouraged. The 2 AM Code emphasizes finding your unique voice, balancing cultural values with the need to advocate for yourself in a way that feels authentic.

13. You write about navigating after-hours etiquette—what’s one unspoken rule every professional should know?

One unspoken rule is to establish and respect personal boundaries when it comes to after-hours communication. Just because someone sends an email at 10 PM doesn’t mean you have to respond immediately. Setting expectations for response times and maintaining work-life balance is key to sustaining long-term professional success.

14. What is your favorite story or example shared in the book?

One of my favorite stories is about a woman who faced constant interruptions in meetings and how she reclaimed her voice. Her journey to assertiveness, which included speaking up confidently and redirecting conversations, resonated deeply with me. It’s a reminder that empowerment often starts with small but powerful acts.

15. How does the book address the challenges faced by women in male-dominated industries?

The book offers practical strategies for navigating male-dominated spaces, such as how to command respect, address microaggressions, and advocate for equal opportunities. It also includes stories from women who’ve thrived in these environments, showing that success is possible without compromising authenticity or dignity.

16. What personal experiences shaped the lessons in The 2 AM Code?

Many of the lessons come from moments when I struggled with self-doubt, navigated challenging workplaces, or had to stand up for myself in relationships. Each chapter reflects a piece of my journey—from learning to say no to realizing the power of self-efficacy. These moments, though tough, taught me resilience and the importance of owning my narrative.

17. As someone with a background in management and leadership, how has writing this book changed your perspective?

Writing this book deepened my empathy. It reminded me that every person’s story is unique and that empowerment doesn’t look the same for everyone. It also reinforced the importance of mentorship and the responsibility leaders have to create environments where others can thrive.

18. What was your biggest challenge when writing The 2 AM Code?

The biggest challenge was finding the balance between being personal and universal. I wanted the book to feel relatable and honest while also providing actionable strategies that could resonate with a broad audience. Walking that line took time and a lot of reflection.

19. If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?

I’d tell my younger self to trust her voice. For so long, I second-guessed myself or waited for external validation. The truth is, the moment you start believing in your own worth, the world begins to adjust around you.

20. What was your “2 AM moment,” and how did it lead to the insights in this book?

My “2 AM moment” happened during a time when I felt stuck, overextended, and unsure of my direction. I realized that I couldn’t keep living on autopilot. That night, I wrote down everything I wanted to change—how I wanted to show up, set boundaries, and reclaim my purpose. That list became the blueprint for The 2 AM Code.

21. How do you envision The 2 AM Code helping women worldwide?

I see The 2 AM Code as a ripple effect. When one woman embraces her power, it inspires others to do the same. My hope is that this book becomes a tool for women around the world to feel seen, supported, and capable of breaking through barriers—whether they’re in boardrooms, classrooms, or their own communities.

22. Have you heard from readers who’ve implemented your strategies? What’s the most inspiring feedback you’ve received?

The feedback has been both humbling and inspiring. One reader shared that after reading The 2 AM Code, she finally had the courage to ask for a raise she’d deserved for years—and she got it. Another said the book helped her set boundaries with her family, which improved her relationships rather than straining them. These stories remind me why I wrote this book: to help others reclaim their power and live authentically.

23. Are there plans for a follow-up book or more resources related to The 2 AM Code?

Yes! I’m currently working on creating additional resources, like a journal that complements The 2 AM Code. It’s designed to help readers apply the lessons in the book to their daily lives. I’m also considering a course or workbook to dive deeper into topics like self-efficacy and boundary-setting. The journey doesn’t end with the book—it’s just the beginning.

24. What advice would you give to someone who wants to share their own story of empowerment with the world?

Start by owning your story fully—every triumph, every setback, every lesson. Authenticity resonates. Then, think about who you want to reach and how your story can serve them. Whether it’s through a book, a blog, or a social platform, focus on connection rather than perfection. And most importantly, don’t wait for permission—your story is worth sharing.

25. If readers take away only one lesson from The 2 AM Code, what would you want it to be?

The most important lesson is this: Your power lies in your ability to define yourself. Don’t let others dictate your worth, your boundaries, or your potential. You have the tools within you to rewrite your story and create a life that aligns with your values and dreams. Believe in that power, and act on it.
